Story
Smithery

The smith shapes iron to the desired size and shape by heating and hammering. In earlier centuries the utilization of iron was more restricted in villages than in towns; the folk smiths of villages primarily made hand tools, household items and agricultural tools. Their most frequent products were various horseshoes and ironwork. Most of them also dealt with healing animals at a basic level; from the beginning of the 19 th  century this craft provided those craftsmen who renewed and invented rural working tools and made weapons, locking devices and agricultural machines.

In Szeklerland the smithery in the traditional sense is in the course of disappearing;

the number of rural workshops is decreasing, as together with the dissolution of old forms of agriculture there are fewer and fewer draught animals awaiting to be shod.

Today, the traditional techniques of the old blacksmiths are carried on in Olasztelek by György Nagy. His workshop, famous far and wide, produces both utensils and decorative art.
